Can anyone give me a complete packing list? I'm from Wisconsin so I really don't know what the weather will be like at the end of June/beginning of July. Does somebody want to tell me what I will need for clothes, cash, extra stuff?

The weather in Washington D.C. during the summer is very hot. Anywhere from 80-100 degrees. Very humid. Not windy, slight breeze though.

For casual clothes there are 9 occasions to dress casually (4 day, 5 night) So that would be jeans, shorts, capris, non formal skirts, tee shirts, tank tops, sneakers, regular shoes.

For professional clothes there are 7 occasions to dress professionally (6 day, 3 night). That would be nice skirts, blouses, khaki capris, light weight pants, appropriate (not super fancy) dresses, light sweaters, nicer shoes than your casual pair.

There is also one night of semi formal. That would include dresses (sleeveless, strapless).

For lunches and souvenirs they suggest to bring at least 150.00 or more.

Bring a carry on bag to carry with you when walking around D.C. to hold your money, papers, etc.

This should all be in information packet you recieved, but hope this helps! Smile

I would agree with the professional stuff, but definently bring enough casual clothing for an outfot every day. There is almost always an opportunity to dress casually after all of the meetings and programs end.

Also, I would suggest bringing more than $150. Of course, it all depends on your tastes in food and how many souveneirs you want to purchase. But its better to have too much than too little.

Make sure to consult the info packet to find out how many professional outfits you need. Pack an extra, just in case.

I think that should be fine.

well, it is pretty hot in D.C. during the summer, so it depends on how heavy the pants are. I wouldn't bring anything made out of heavy material that you'd wear when it starts getting cooler out. if they are light weight, or capris, then they should be fine.

Well, i'm also wearing a dress that is prom-ey. and it sounds like a lot of other girls are too. so that should be fine.

and as for the packing list, ok, this is gonna sound dorkey, but my mom has a packing list that we use for like, every trip i go on that's longer than a weekend. it's not specific to the confrance, but i've used it pretty much my entire life and haven't ever had troubles with forgetting stuff. if you want, i can e-mail you the list.

Could anyone please email me a packing list or something? Haha I have no clue...

And also, I have a red "homecoming-esque" dress and a long black sparkly dress. Which one should I bring?

Either dress should be fine but at my session most girls wore short dresses (short dresses as in to your knees)

As for the packing list, basically bring clothes (obviously) and anything you use everyday and SNACKS! snacks for your room is pretty much an essential (you and your roommates will benefit from it)
also bring tylenol or something because you never know if you're gonna get a headache or something like that.

I hope that helps a bit even though thats not really a list. :]

When is there really a time to be causal? Cause I'm dying to only pack jeans and t-shirts (as idiotic as that sounds) but I'm sure there's only one instance where being able to do that is possible. Or am I wrong?Confused

Would this outfit be considered business dressy or casual. I can't tell the difference...

I would call that relaxed professional, though I think it could probably pass for professional if the shirt was more...dressy..and less...60s.. : D

Also would not recommend heels (or 'peep toe' shoes). I don't care how 'cute' or 'sexy' they look, you will die an agonizingly slow death. Also there are quite a few sidewalks in D.C. that are actually cobbled which means heels are liable to get stuck while you faceplant on the cement. It's hilarious to watch, but I never recommend embarrassing oneself.

You're a lot smarter than some of the girls from my session then. Still, you may wish to become acquainted with how to care for blisters and open wounds - if not for yourself, then for the other girls. I would also recommend any OTC pain killers, cause you never know when you or one of your roomies is going to be in agonizing pain.

When people say professional dresses I don't really understand what they mean? like kind of dressy spring dresses? or really like professional not cutsy dresses? I have like 2 skirt suits that I'm bringing do many people where these? O I'm also going flat shoes only! Ok, so I understand the large bag thing.. is this susposed to be like a messenger bag (verbradely type) or a dressier leather laptop/breifcase bag? Thanks for any and all help you can provide!

when you think professional, think conservative, most often a skirt/dress that is one piece, and not flashy....

Sorry I couldn't help you grasp women's fashion Brian...feel free to go try on some things in the mall sometime ;D. You'll catch on pretty quick..just watch out for that camel toe, it's pretty unforgiving.
--------------------------------------------
Summer if could show me some examples of something similar to what you're planning to take I could definitely help you out! And yes, some girls wore skirt suits, even I did. Just make sure the colors are 'professional' (creams, navies, blacks, etc...you know what I'm getting at). That doesn't mean you can't be colorful (it's not in the handbook anyway), it's just that I felt if I was going to be representing my state I should be as close to what I thought reps in D.C. would wear as possible.

I would suggest both a messenger big enough for a textbook, pair of shoes, and your misc. electronics/snacks. I would also recommend a clutch big enough for your misc. electronics or any feminine necessities - whenever you're on the Hill Hustle you will not be allowed anything bigger than a clutch.
