I am completely sure that NYLC will be a great way to meet new people and have great memories and all that jazz, which is why I've decided to go, but in order for me to make it to Washington, I have to fly. I hate flying and usually cry when I'm forced to be stuck in an aircraft of any sort ( big or small I've flown them all), so for any of those who like me are just nervous wrecks when it comes to being tens of thousands of miles in the air I found some tips that I'm hoping will help me when my plane takes off on April 7th and maybe you too, lol.
And if you guys have any tips, posting them would be greatly appreciated.

Probably the best tip I can give you is to take an ipod or a book or something to take your mind off of the fear. When I fly, I normally put my Ipod in after take off and try to find a way to nod off to sleep. If you are somehow able to get to sleep, the flight will fly by and you will be at your destination before you know it.

My ipod touch was stolen at school this past week so hopefully I can buy a new one by the time I leave....

well then wrap yourself up in a good book. Most planes have a radio system embedded in the arm rest too if you have a pair of headphones....

I loooove flying.. Wish i could do more of it. Sadly, the next time ill be flying is in summer when i go to Myrtle Beach, SC.
And that really sucks about your Ipod. My touch was stolen a few weeks ago.. and today, i almost got my parents to buy me the Iphone... but my phone contract with sprint doesnt end until the 18th of March.
I cant believe you still havnt found your Pod! This world really sucks sometimes.
Rock it out.

a small dose of non drowsy car sickness medicine may help. I get car sick easy so my friend gave me some and it put me straight to sleep (even though it was non drowsy maybe cuz i had stayed up a while the other nite) but it just relaxes u.or at least for me...

I have a horrible fear of heights! Like piggy back rides and escalators scare the crap out of me, but I have no troubles flying (except for landing; takeoff is fun !). I would highly recommend shuting your eyes and listening to music or putting in ear plugs until you feel comfortable. If you open your eyes and still feel nauseated try and get comfortable enough to sleep (hard to do I know - my 6 hr flight between ORD and LHR was tiring but I just couldn't sleep).
You might try Summer's suggestion, it sounds good.
you think not sleeping on a 6 hour flight is bad? try not sleeping on a 13 hour flight overseas w/ People to People Student Ambasadors..... LAX to Brisbane was not a fun flight...

Well I didn't sleep from LBB-DFW (why bother it's only 30-45 minutes, it's far more amusing to watch the stewardesses run to try and finish the cross-check), DFW-ORD, or ORD-LHR. Let's keep in mind the delays between flights and dealing with immigration/customs at LHR. By the time I made it to the house I was staying in I'd been awake almost 24 hrs (might've been 22) with only 6 hrs of sleep the night before. You and I also know how disorienting it is to make a time zone shift that large :'D
The real kicker is that I had NOTHING to do the whole 6 hours. No book, no music, no in-flight movies (I wasn't paying $10 for those cheap headphones). N-O-T-H-I-N-G. Though I guess if I weren't such a penny pincher I wouldn't have suffered so much, but you get the point.
I thnk the longest I've ever been awake is 54 hours, and that was on the P2P trip on the way home from Auckland, where I went from Auckland to LAX, then we didn't have our domestic flights confirmed, so we were all on standby, and all but four make it on, so they took us to a hotel and then we took a red eye from LA to Chicago, where a five hour layover plus a 3 hour delay, on top of the 12 hours spent in LA, plus the 11 1/2 hour flight from Auckland after being awake all day that morning turned it into a total of 54 hours.....(I know that math doesn't add up but I left out a couple of details)

Don't worry about a thing and keep your head on your shoulders! People make flying out to be harder and harsher than it really is (most of the time)! You will be in good hands, I promise.
It is only a painful experience when unreasonable people make it such.

Apparently the safest place in a plane in the wings...according to my step dad. That's where my seat is on both plane rides

I really don't care where I sit, as long as I don't have screaming, crying kids behind me. Even THAT can't be blocked out by an Ipod on full blast

haha i agree brian. i went to china before and it was like a 17 hour non-stop flight because we got delayed or something. i was lucky enough to have somebody kicking the back of my seat and the person infront of me putting their seat down as far as they could like a bed! that was such a bad flight!
