Im going this summer, and i was wondering. What do the girls wear? Im so not big on suits and things. When they say dress suits, what does that mean?! For casual days, could i wear mini skirts and flip flops? And should i bring a purse or does that just get in the way? And on the closing night, it says you could bring a dress, does anyone do that, or should i just bring something kinda nice to wear that night?

I was also wondering what is it usually like daily? I mean, how do you get to meet people and what are the main rules? Is there anytime in the morning to do make up and get ready or is it pretty much a get up and go type of thing?

Thanks a bunch if you can answer any of these!!

Hey Emma!
So for clothes, dress suit mean pretty much just that-a suit jacket, blouse and skirt/pants was pretty much what I wore most of the time. Just skirts/pants and a nice shirt would work too if you're not really into suits. For casual days, you can wear absolutely anything you want, as long as it's appropriate. Skirts, flip flops, jeans, sweatshirts--it's whatever you feel most comfortable in. About 90% of the girls wore homecoming type dresses on the last night while some wore just dressy pants and a shirt. If you have a semiformal dress, I would personally recommend that. During the week, you have as much time to get ready as you make for yourself. If you need time for makeup in the morning, you wake up when you feel you need to in order to make it to buses on time. This wasn't really a problem when I went. And when you say meet people do you mean other kids at the conference? If this is what you mean, then you can just go up and introduce yourself. I know I liked meeting new people and learning where they were from. Hope this helps.

I have a question. I heard somebody on here mention that the GYLC was some sort of reunion to the NYLC. Is this true?

Thanks. Something weird happened today and I'm wondering if this happened to everybody or not. I got another e-mail inviting me to the NYLC but I think it is the fall session, but I just got back my confirmation of acceptance for the june 9-18 Conference. Did this happen to everyone or is it just me?

It get on up there!! It avg. about 85 to 95 depending on the humidity that day. If you're from the south FL, AL,and some parts of LA and GA, it'll feel normal for the most part. I think the worst part about the weather is the fact that it was so unperdictable.

true. it was cool and rainy in the morning one day, then it stops raining and the sun comes out and the humidity gets jacked up to about 110%.

yeah, it can get nasty. That's what a lot of people(including me) hate about the South. its not necessarily the heat, its the humidity that causes problems. There have been many a day(even here in Ohio where I live) that I've worked myself to passing out from the humidity on the field.

I have a question: at our hotel are there a washer and dryer? Or are there laundromats very close so we can do laundry?

Basically I'm asking if I have to bring enough clothes to live without washing any of them for all ten days? Hope I have enough quarters....

i would just pack enough stuff so that laundry is unneccessary, because youre either not gonna have time, or be having too much fun that you dont wanna have to do it.
as to whether or not there is i cant help there... it would just be a guess.

It just depends on what time things are scheduled. Some mornings, breakfast can be early as 6 or as late as 8 and meetings and appointments can begin as early as 7 or as late as 9:30. It really just depends on how much you're doing that day or where you're going. The hotel normally has a service where they will take laundry for you, but it is costly. You won't want to do laundry. Competition can get nasty for washers and dryers w/ other hotel guests. I know this from countless baseball tournaments and trying to get uniforms cleaned up for the next day.

I have a question:
As to dining out every day, do they just send us out on our own or do they tell you to only go to certain places or what? Do we have lunch or just go without? I just want to know so I can plan on how much money to bring etc. etc.

except for the day (or possibly two) you're at the hotel around lunch time, it'll be on your own. You can eat or go without. Normally this is your only free time to get anything done that you might need(bank, convienence store, etc). They usually give you a map of where you can go or say stay within a certain block radius of your location b/c the bus will pick you up back there or you need to be headed that direction for your next appointment.
