Hey yall, I'm a summer alum and am willing to answer any and all questions that you fall folks might have about NYLC. I just thought we needed an official thread

Anything specific that we might need that is usually forgotten or that will make life easier? lol.

Lol if you could make the question a bit more specific that would help me out... things like dress, ciriculum, stuff like that.... but i guess remember your $40 for the shuttle to and from the airport, always have your nametag/badge thingy, uh what else...

do not...i repeat... do not...attempt to make purple rooms ...you will get caught lol...oh and for all the speakers...even if you think it'll be really interesting...or if you think you can get away with sleeping....make sure you bring something to doodle on to keep yourself occupied cuz no matter how tired you are they will not allow you to sleep while the guest speakersare talking (perfectly understandable) but you can doodle so you dont get too incredibly bored...and BRING COMFORTABLE SHOES!!!! for the times when you do a lot of walking the faculty advisors will usually allow you to change out of your dressshoes and trust me you want to take advantage of the opportunity....i heard guys shoes got just as uncomfortable as the girls high heelsso yea...comfy shoes are a must

so for those optional seminars do you guys recommend going to them or should we just get aquainted with everyone and everything??

It depends on what your goals are for attending this conference. If you want to socialize, then by all means skip them. I did my socializing during dinner and stuff, and still got to know enough people that i went to the seminars. In fact, I met more people at those seminars too.

yea...i'd say go to the seminars because most people did and you meet alot of people that way

You meet so many people. Take paper and pen @ breakfast the last LGM or @ breakfast so you can exchange contact information w/ people!

Do we have to wear professional attire when arriving, say at 3:30 on the first day? When does the profesional attire start that day?

You dont have to wear professional attire when arriving, but you can if you want to. I did because I knew I wouldnt feel like changing later. They'll let you know when you need professional clothing and when you can dress casual.

We had to change to professional the 1st night for our welcoming and 1st guest speaker. I wore a golf shirt and khaki shorts to the hotel as well.

if u havea long plane ride i would not suggest wearing professional attire on arrival....you will have time to change and you don't wantto be overly uncomfortable on the plane ride

I brought somewhere around $250-$300 cash, meals during the day when you can eat lunch can get fairly expensive depending on where you eat. You'll also want a good amount for souvenirs. I also brought my credit card along, but didn't use it but once or twice.

I had about $200 in cash and $400 on my debit card. I found that my card and cash was more convent for me because it was easy to carry around and if you need more cash you could just g to an ATM and use your card.

yeah, you'll need the money definately. Make sure $40 is accessible to you when you get off the plane when you get there to pay the shuttle fee from the airport

wow...i had $200 on a Visagift card and $75 in cash....i only spent about $200 total...including shuttle bus and disposable cameras lol...i'm asking my parentals for a digital camera for my bday...much cheaper lol

probably is. And you can just unload the memory cards and load up new ones(although one card probably holds like 800 pics or something, so unless you're snapping like every two seconds, I don't think you'll need one)
