Try not not to worry too much about making friends. Eek All you have to do is start talking to people - introduce yourself and find out what you have in common. For the most part everyone there is really friendly as long as you are.
Banana

OH - and make sure you bring your camera charger or batteries. And make sure your alarm clock is LOUD - you'll be tired from not getting much sleep

1. remember sneakes (i forgot mine Confused)
2. i don't suggest using the room alarms because you don't know if it is going to work (or if you even set it correctly) bring your own and if it has the function, set two alarms.
3. keep all your personals close to you at all times, dont want to lose them/ have them stolen.
4. don't be stupid and do something that will get you in trouble (prank calls, out after room check).
5. you get a 'memorybook' type thing at the end, but i recommend getting your friends to sign your workbook, because you might not have time for them to sign your 'memorybook'
6. i heard this from the advice for GYLC but: bring a second notebook and use it to keep a journal/ draw in it/ write ideas, jokes/ get peoples contact info.
7. don't bother watching tv when you get back to your room...you will be tired and besides, theres not much on at 10-11 (at the 4-h we didnt have cable Eek Confused)
8. take pictures of everything! your friends, your fas, the sights, the lfgs, everything!
9. when you are in your historical snapshot meetings: DO STUFF! because if not you will be unprepared and might have to sacrifice sleep to get it done. (we had a meeting at 5 in the morning the day of to get our skit together...and if you are making an early meeting MAKE SURE EVERYONES COMMITED! the girl whose idea it was to have a 5 AM meeting slept in and didnt come till later! and she kinda had a big part...)
10. get to know your roommates...they are fun to talk to whenever you get back to your room and at night (just dont stay up too late!)

When you get to the Conference Site do they start assigning rooms asap or do they wait a little? And, Are your roommates in your LFG? If not, do you really get to know them that well?

You'll get to know you're roomates really well, mine were AWESOME!! It depends, sometimes they are and sometimes they are not in your LFG, they already have rooms assigned, so you just check in and then they give you you're number

Ok so basically everyone says the same old things on here.......bring alarm clock, be on time to LFG meetings, wake up early.....but a lot o fpeople try to tell you whats going to happen there. and how to do things when really the jr.nylc is a program to find yourself and who you are and what you want to be. you don't need people to tell you how everything is going to be because it is wayyyyyy more fun if you find out on your own. all of the advice i said in the begaining is very good advice but im not going to say any more except to speak out in LFGs because then you will present a speech at the end of the conference.(i did one) the jrnylc was the best week of my life and before it i thought i knew what i wanted to do with my life but really it was just the beging for me. I met sooooo many good people and i even found someone that i really kinda you know liked. he was soooooo nice funny and stuff. i mean your parents or whoever payed sooooooo much money for you guys to go on this trip so make the most of it. good luck you guys i hope you have a great time! and if you have any questions PM me. bye

Just have fun and go into the conference with an open mind. I had what i thought it would be like planned out in my mind and it was nothing like what it really was (what it really was is a lot better)
Keep in mind that all the many other people that are there are going through the same thing u are and ....relax!!! it will be fine trust me i survived and i want to go back really soon
Be organized u are sharing a room with 3 other people and if u are not organized then ur stuff might get mixed in with your roomie's stuff so assign places in the room for your stuff /// their stuff. and so on
I took a lot of snacks because i thought the food would be nasty well i got there and it was great!!! i carried all that food for nothing. That was an extra 5 pounds in my bag! lol
March 8-13th was the best ever!!!!!
KoJo was the absolute funnest FA ever
( go KoJO's bfam u da best)

i think the most importent thing u could evr do is do a good good-bye to your friends because you will pronbably never see them again. i didn't do a good good-bye. make sure to do it at the maryland science center because at the 4-h or hilton everyone wants to see their parents and stuff. i had the best week of my entire life and i will never orget it. just remeber you have waited like wat 6 months for this conference?? so have a blast!

At the first LFG Meeting, they will give you a drawstring bag with a waer bottle and a few other things. They may encourage yo to use it for your day pack. DO NOT DO THAT!!. Everybody else will be using a bag exactly alike and you cannot tell them apart. They put on masking tape with your name on it at first, but it peels right off very quickly. What I did was pack it into my suitcase the first time I got back to my room and used my backpack from home the rest of the trip. Then, as luck would have it, when we arrived for the sleepover at Discovery Cove, they dumped all of our daypacks on the floor in the front lobby. Most of them were JrNYLC bags and all looked alike, but mine stook out and was easy to find. After the trip, people were posting all over the alumni boards about "I Lost My JrNYLC Bag at discovery cove! It had money and my phone and souveniers in it! Please help!" and things of that nature. None of them found their bags. So, KEEP THE JrNYLC BAG AS A SOUVENIER!
