Just thought that I would let all of you know to save your money. Check out the JrPyic message boards and then decide if you want to spend the outrageous amount of money only to be locked in your room and told to stay there for 2 hours and to also be told that you will not be going to some of the events because of the weather. I will not spend another dollar on this organization and I suggest that you don't either...it just isn't worth it....look at People to People if you want to go on an educational trip....peopletopeople.com

I am afraid you are right about this. Our son has done CYLC twice, now. Once the year before high school, and now this for the Inauguration. Our daughter did People to People several years ago and went to Northern California to Muir Woods and the Marine Tidal whatsitcalled..i can't think. People to People had people AT THE AIRPORT when she left who flew with her. We also had several get togethers prior to their departure for California so that we could get to know them and the kids could get to know each other. My daughter did not want to go again, and I don't know what that says about People to People. There were a few snags on that trip, too...but NOTHING like this. My son's first CYLC experience was good, but we were staying in the same hotel as him. I felt that this organization could be trusted based on previous experience. I was dead wrong.

NYLSC is honestly completely boring. We basically reviewed the simplest things. The program was a waste.

However, PYIC was completely different. Although it was blatantly unorganized, it turned out to be a good experience.

I'm sure as hell the happiest I've ever been.

I leave in 2 weeks for NYLSC in Chicago. All of the people who I've talked to have said they loved NYLSC and it was a very worthwhile experience. I even know someone who liked it so much he went back less than a year later. What made it so boring when you went?

wow... i am really surprised that ppl thought that it was a waste of time.i totally loved it... i met ppl that were absolutley amazing... i kinda only regret one thing... like i took names and email and phone numbers... but i waited a little while to try and get ahold of them and was only successful with two of them... which makes me want to cry. But it was an absolute blast.. i mean we weren't exactly perfect students.. for example... ya see ur not suppose to leave your room before 8:00 or something... so i kinda decided to sneak down to the boys floor... just to talk to them and it was like 7:30... so i kinda left... and got caught in purple zone(girls&guys together) and so the mentor guy had to escort me back to my room... and it was flippin hilarious. Alright another ex. was that there was a gift shop at the hotel that we stayed at with like food and stuff, so we would all go down (like 50 of us) and there was a door chime, so people would stand in the way of it, and let it just keep going off, so the clerk called security on all of us... that was pretty funny too... but other than that it was ok... but dont be afraid to have fun...

Let me let all ya'll in a little secret about life...

IT'S ONLY AS FUN AS YOU DECIDE TO MAKE IT

You can't get anything out of life if you don't make an effort at it! People can't make something fun for you if you can't have fun yourself. It's kind of like going to a birthday bash and sitting yourself in the kitchen instead of dancing with everyone else!

I completely disagree about People to People being the way to go. People to People is a superficial over priced trip for students who don't know enough about their opportunities to travel abroad. The way to go is with a World Learning trip. The Experiment in International Living is a 5 week program that costs marginally more than a People to People trip and instead of going somewhere for 20 days like I have with people to people you go for 39 (five and a half weeks.) You get to live with your family for a few weeks as well as traveling and having much much much more meaningfull experiences than the sheltered watered down versions of places you go to with People to People. There are more than 25 countries you can go to including trips in Africa where you get to build schools and teach children english. The trips are far and away better experiences in every single aspect than People to People. The President of World Learning was executive director of UNICEF for 10 years. She is one of the most powerfull and influential women in the world of phylanthropy. World Learning is an amazing orginization and if you decided to not to a CYLC program it is the way to go for international programs. FAR superior to People to People in every single way.
