I'm selling stuff at my school and at my church and sending out sponsership letters too. I have the same situation and I really want to go to this one so I'm doing everything I can to be able to go.

I'm in the same situation and I thought it would be really cool to go somewhere outside this country. I think I'm going to try and apply for one of the scholarships.
Can't wait till PYIC!

I'm doing the usual. I've gotten a decent job, I'm writing letters to everyone with a wallet (preferably an open one) and I've even starting selling MUFFINZ! By my math, I can raise more than half the tution (even in the worst case sceniro).

That's awesome, but none of that would probably work for me. I'm too young to get a job, already got huge help from anyone generous enogh to donate, and not much of a salemen. So as I said earlier, I'm going to apply for the scolarship. That would be the only way my family could afford this trip(I wish they weren't sooo expensive). I think I'd want to go to the Europe trip.

from my experiences trying to pay for my NY/DC trip this summer, (so excited!) i realized that a great way to help raise money is to get together a couple of your friends and host an event at your school. my and my friend are going on our trip together, and we've planned an Oscar Night. Basically, everyone gets dressed up and we have a big red carpet event where we give out student-voted awards like "best dressed grade 12 girl", "cutest couple" and such. the event is actually a week from tonight! but the more you get the word out about what you're doing and what an amazing cause it is, the more people are going to be willing to help you out. i also have a job, which is helping a lot, but a school fundraiser gives you the chance to lead a huge event, get other students aware of CYLC, and have a great time. hope i helped.
hey! Some time ago I applied for the GYLC scholarship. I was told i´d get a letter 2 weeks after the dead line. I´m curious if anybody earned the scholarship? Some have received negative answers. I haven´t received any letter yet. Should i be happy or worried?^^
Hey, This year a group of 7 guys from my school had to raise money to get to the GYLC China trip. I can't begin to describe how daunting a task it was, but when you get down to it, fundraising can be a breeze. I read a book before I started and learnt a couple interesting things about appraching companies, but I think the most important advice is to know who to go to, make a list and just send requests, you really never know who's going to respond! My parents said from the word go that they were not paying for my trip and so did most of the other parents in my group, but it doesn't mean you don't go to every other family member and friend! The help I got from there was amazing. Beyond that I say, work with your talents, what you do and enjoy doing, I had a concert and was able to raise a third of my money all in one go just asking for 'as much as you're willing to give'. One things for sure, after this fundraising experience, I know that once you really want something, and you can convince yourself why, everything else will just fall into place.

When I was going to GYLC, I applied for sponsorship from various companies and organisations in my country like the telephone and electricity company, Lions club etc. To help them make their decision, I did some public awareness; wrote to the newspapers, did an interview with journalists. I am not a lover of the spotlight but companies like promotions so the possibility of being advertised i think helped. I did eventually get enough to cover my tuition. Hope this helps
