I know it's a little early to talk about GYLC 2009 but just in case... Smile
Hey, guys, I'm Sophia Xue from Shanghai, China and I attended GYLC 2008 in USA last month. I just saw the sample schedule of GYLC 2009 in China and it's awesome! The trip will cover Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai. I can imagine those who are interested in coming will have loads of questions, and as a native Shanghainese, I'd like to help. If u want to know anything about China (especially Shanghai) from the climate, basic language to how to bargain in Shanghai (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), feel free to discuss them here. Also available for those who are travelling to China for other purposes.

Und will ich die Sterne,
dann finde ich selbst dorthin.
Ich wachse und lerne
und bleibe doch wie ich bin.
Ich wehr mich,
bevor ich mich verlier!
Denn ich gehör nur mir.

I don't even know if I'll get to go to any of the GYLC, but I'm totally torn between the Chinese/Euro tracks..

I know that our counselors will all speak english, but would I have to know any Mandarin/Cantonese to get around if I went on the Chinese track (sorry I don't know which one is spoken in what regions)? What's the climate like over there? Also...bargaining?

Hi Sophia,

I have uh, tons and tons of questions, but I don't want to overwhelm you so I'll ask you two: How long does it take to walk the whole Great Wall? and will it be warm at night in the summer? Confused

Clueless,

You won't be walking the whole Great Wall, trust me. It's more than a couple thousand miles long. ;D
